Okay, so I’m litter picking. Nothing particularly unusual there but please bear with me.

Last night Julie and I were out walking and in and around the subway pictured, there was a lot of litter, including broken glass. Well, I just couldn’t leave it and decided to come back this evening, to clear it up.

As I approached the subway, it became apparent that it had already been cleared. While walking up the other side, a voice called out; “Alistair did that.

A woman (Samantha) who was walking her dog kindly told me about Alistair who regularly picks litter in, not just this subway but another one, too.

As we were talking, guess who walked by. Yes, it was Alistair. I thanked him for what he does on a regular basis. He didn’t want to be identified and was quite modest about his litter-picking adventures, so I left it at that.

The litter I’ve collected in the picture, is from the rest of my evening walk of which I have several routes around Grovehill. Hopefully as the Facebook group expands, we’ll be able to organise litter picks across the ward.

To Alistair and everyone else who helps keep Grovehill tidy, here’s a big THANK YOU!

As with the road name signs in Grovehill, we thought it would be a good idea to do the same with pot holes.

The maintenance of most roads are the responsibility of Herts Highways, so Colette will most likely be dealing with the cast majority of pot holes. Some roads however, come under the jurisdiction of Dacorum Borough Council and so Julie, Goverdhan or Alex will be dealing with those.

Putters Croft. This is particularly annoying for residents as pot holes were filled in during the first lock-down of 2020. To everyone's astonishment however, the repairs only lasted three or four weeks! Seriously? Doesn't anyone come out and check them?
The entrance to Avon Square really isn't very nice.
Up to 6m from the road is the responsibility of Herts Highways, at the entrance of Henry Wells Square. Beyond that, it's down to Dacorum Borough Council.
Yeah, it's difficult to see in this picture but the now well known, "Link Road Ridge" in Piccotts End, is causing havoc with the suspension on older vehicles and it doesn't seem to have been picked up on any local authority's radar. In fact, some of us think that it's a potential safety hazard.

Don't hesitate to contact us, if you are aware of a pot hole that needs attention.

Walking around Grovehill, it's not difficult to notice that some road name signs have seen better days. With a view to brighten up the ward, we're asking for residents' help to identify road name signs that they feel might benefit from replacement.

Dacorum Borough Council has a fixed annual budget for replacing road name signs, so Alex, Julie and Goverdhan have decided to get organised, hopefully making things easier for the power that be. They just have to visit this post (!) or download this document. 🙂

Old Maple is barely legible.
On the junction with Wootton Drive, one of the Putters Croft road signs is okay but this one isn't.
Washington Avenue junction with St. Agnells Lane (Cupid Green)... where is it?
St. Agnells Lane also at Cupid Green end.
The Glen in The Dee.

UPDATE - 3rd October 2022

We're delighted to report that most of the above road name signs have now been replaced. See them here.

Things have been really quite difficult for many, over the past eighteen months or so. Our hearts go out to anyone who may have lost family or friends over this unprecedented time.

For us too, it's been quite frustrating as on several occasions, we've been on the edge of bringing you an In Touch, only to decide that perhaps it wouldn't be appropriate to actually deliver it.

Wanting to ensure that we bring you the latest news in and around Grovehill and Piccotts End, Goverdhan, Julie, Colette and Alex, decided to launch on Facebook. Indeed today, we now have a Facebook page and a Facebook group, both specifically to keep you informed of news and to make it easier for you to contact us.

Over the first lock-down, paths in Putters Croft were resurfaced.

Roads and pavements are one of the top issues Colette gets asked about and she's always on the case with Hertfordshire County Council to get roads in both Woodhall Farm and Grovehill checked and fixed, when necessary.

Passionate about road safety, Colette supported residents in 2020, to get a crossing installed across the Redbourn Road.

Road safety is also a big issue with residents and Colette is working on several current projects to reduce incidents in Grovehill and Woodhall Farm.

Here's Julie, Goverdhan and Alex highlighting issues with the road at the back of Henry Wells Square, in April 2019

Getting on well with the borough councillors in the area is important and Colette's close relationship with Alex, Julie and Goverdhan, means that stuff does actually get done.

Yes it took a while but coincidentally, the day after this website went live, residents reported that the road is actually being done. Hey thanks, Colette!
